When two people sit with a Jewish text — listening, questioning, wondering together — learning becomes more than information. It becomes relationship. Meaning. Belonging.
Havruta learning invites us into Judaism not as spectators, but as active participants in an ongoing conversation. It reminds us that wisdom emerges not alone, but together.
We envision a world where havruta learning is accessible to every Jew, in every community.
Havruta learning ...
EMPOWERS. | Both partners matter. Each person brings insight, questions, and lived experience, playing the role of teacher and student.
CONNECTS. | Through shared study, havruta links Jewish texts to real human questions, deepening connection to the tradition, to one another, and to ourselves.
ENLIGHTENS. | New understanding emerges when partners listen closely—to the text, to each other, and to what’s unfolding between them.
EXPANDS. | Havruta cultivates curiosity and courage. By practicing disagreement with care and openness, learners build the skills to engage complex ideas with respect, humility, and trust.
One of the best things about learning with your Project Zug havruta is the opportunity to get to know someone new or to strengthen your relationship with a friend, family member, or colleague.
Project Zug’s courses not only include text sources in translation, but also background information and guiding questions. This framework allows you to dig deeply into the texts and get to know another person through substantive conversations.
Yes, Jewish texts belong to you.
Project Zug provides course material that is designed to be learned by you and a partner. You don't need a teacher in the room or a library of Jewish books to access the wisdom of our tradition.
We make Torah learning accessible to people of all different learning backgrounds, providing courses for new, experienced, and seasoned learners. All our courses invite learners to engage directly with Jewish sacred texts.
Are you a part of a Jewish community?
Project Zug offers a unique and valuable addition to learning programs in congregations, Hillel's, day schools, and other Jewish organizations across the world.
For years, Project Zug has served as a resource for Jewish communities to broaden choices for adult education, establish cultures of learning, and build stronger bonds among community members. My havruta and I have met in person every week for the past two months, working our way through the Prayerbook course. It's been a wonderful introduction for me to this form of learning: I've gained a greater appreciation and understanding of many prayers and prayer customs, and the course has whetted my appetite for more Jewish study.
It's been great to have a Jewish learning outlet to reconnect with a dear friend. I love having an "excuse" to meet on a weekly basis and will be sad when we finish our course!
I'm really enjoying both my havruta and the material we are learning. It is so wonderful to be part of Project Zug. This is my third experience. Each one has been different, but all have been wonderful.
My havruta and I are very much appreciating the thought-provoking material and the "Taking a Step Back" questions at the end. We are having great discussions.
